The Traverse City West Titans’ football, boys’ basketball and select girls’ basketball games will be broadcast after a long hiatus thanks to an exclusive partnership with Blarney Stone Broadcasting. For the first time in more than 15 years, the full schedule of these sports will be broadcast on WWMN-FM (Thompsonville), operated by Blarney Stone Broadcasting through a licensing agreement with Mitten News. The Grayling-based BSB has been successfully broadcasting Grayling Viking High School sports for many years, receiving numerous Michigan Association of Broadcasters Excellence Awards for its coverage.

“The opportunity to bring all the excitement and tremendous athletic efforts of the students of Traverse City West to an audience that cannot travel to the games is a community service Blarney Stone Broadcasting is proud to deliver in the Traverse City market,” BSB, President, Sheryl Coyne said. “We will also be podcasting the games on our website: q100-fm.com.”

“What a great opportunity to celebrate our student athletes, teams and coaches,” said Jason Carmien, TC West’s athletic director and assistant principal. “West is looking forward to this partnership and expanding the Titan Athletics brand.”

BSB is bringing two local broadcasting legends out of retirement and back into the booth under the Friday night lights. Play by Play announcer Tom Devitt has called high school games across the state for 15 years and hosted ESPN radio’s High School Scoreboard show for seven years in Northern Michigan. His partner, MAB award-winning color analysist Rich Caulkins is back, too. Caulkins is a co-host of Up North Sports Radio’s “Friday Face-Off.” He will also host the network’s “Saturday Scoreboard Show” featured each Saturday in the fall and winter at 10 a.m. to recap the week’s regional high school sports action, including interviews with players and coaches.

The TC West football season is slated to begin August 26 vs. Midland at the University of Michigan’s stadium. Billed the “Battle in the Big House,” four prominent high school teams will play in the largest football stadium in North America August 26-27.
